Русскому уху этот город чаще всего знаком по телефильму «Труффальдино из Бергамо», поставленному по пьесе Карло Гольдони «Слуга двух господ». Причем, в названии фильма ударение в слове «Бергамо» падает на второй слог, видимо, для ритмичности, тогда как правильное ударение – на первый слог.

“The Old Capital”. Previously, we explore the town of Tampere with its industrial heart, now it is time to move on to another big town of Finland, Turku. Turku (or “Åbo” in Swedish) is the old capital of the country; that is why I decided to name this chapter of the journey this way.

“Industrial Town”. This name totally fits the description of Tampere, the second largest town in Finland, after the Greater Helsinki Area. Tampere is not a typical town among the largest Finnish towns, i.e. it has 2 places which can be considered as a city center. The first one is, perhaps, the railroad station, which is not something to be symbolic, and the second one is the actual city center. However, speaking of the symbols of Tampere, the Näsinneula Tower is one of the most recognizable symbols of the town.

We will begin this journey with a town of Hämeenlinna moving on to a very small town of Juva right onto the town of Kupio. These are some places worth visiting if you decide to explore Finland.

В будущем мы уделим время таким городам как Феррара, Равенна, Перуджа, Пиза, Сиена, а пока посетим Ассизи, который можно назвать небольшим по размеру даже по сравнению с вышеперечисленными.

"Saimaa region". This chapter of the journey is dedicated to two towns of Eastern Finland, i.e. Lappeenranta and Imatra. The two towns are located pretty close to the border of Finland and Russia. The distance between Lappeenranta and Imatra is just 40 kilometers, so there are neighbors. This region around the Lake Saimaa is one of the most, if not the most, beautiful regions in Finland. Breathtaking views of the lake, amazing nature, a feeling of peaceful silence, and, at the same time, a crowded place full of tourists and citizens.

Näsinneula Tower is a must-to-see attraction if you are in Tampere. The tower was built in 1970-1971 and designed by a Finnish architect. This tower is the second tallest observation deck in Nordic countries and, of course, the tallest free-standing building in Finland. However, there is another observation tower in Finland, i.e. in Kuopio, but that one is lower, only 75 meters high, and a bit older. The tower in Kuopio is located on a high hill, which makes it look higher as well, whereas the Näsinneula tower itself is 168 meters in height. 

Башня Näsinneula – это одна из тех достопримечательностей, которую обязательно стоит посетить, если вы оказались в городе Тампере. Башня была построена в 1970-1971 годах и спроектирована финским архитектором. Данная башня является второй по высоте смотровой площадкой среди cкандинавских стран и, конечно же, самым высоким свободно стоящим сооружением в Финляндии. Однако в Финляндии существует еще одна подобная смотровая площадка, а именно в городе Куопио, но ее высота составляет лишь 75 метров, и она немного старше. Башня в Куопио расположена на достаточно высоком холме, собственно из-за чего и сама башня кажется выше, в то время как башня Näsinneula насчитывает 168 метров в высоту.

“Helsinki: the Baltic Capital”. This chapter of the journey will represent the importance of the city for the region; we will travel around the city and this is just the beginning. Helsinki is the largest city of Finland and thus the most populated; you can see a mix of different cultures in one place. As per 2014 Helsinki is ranked as the world’s 5th best city for living, though it used to be the 1st a couple of years ago.

As traffic between Finland and Russia is growing day by day and the amount of travelers increases rapidly, there is a certain need of finding the right transportation. There are so many alternatives for people traveling between Helsinki and Saint Petersburg, as here I would like to focus on these two cities, i.e. the capital of Finland and the northern (second) capital of Russia. You can choose between Allegro trains, St. Peter Line ferries, shuttle buses, minibuses, airplanes or by private cars. As there is a certain need in quite affordable travel between these cities, more alternatives appear and more competition takes place on the market. In this inspection I would like to concentrate on shuttle buses Lux Express. It is a Baltic company, which operates now in Latvia, Estonia, Russia (so far only in St. Petersburg and Moscow), and in Finland.

Поскольку поток людей, путешествующих между Финляндией и Россией, увеличивается с огромной скоростью, возникает необходимость найти наиболее подходящий транспорт. Существует множество альтернатив для людей, совершающих поездки между Хельсинки и Санкт-Петербургом. Я бы хотел сконцентрироваться на этих двух городах, на северной столице России и на столице Финляндии. У каждого всегда остается выбор между поездами Аллегро, круизными паромами St. Peter Line, рейсовыми автобусами, микроавтобусами, самолетами или личным автомобилем. По причине существенного спроса на доступный транспорт между этими городами, на рынке появляется все больше альтернатив. В данной инспекции хочется обратить внимание на рейсовые автобусы Lux Express. Это прибалтийская компания, которая уже оперирует в Латвии, Эстонии, России (пока только в Санкт-Петербурге и Москве), а также в Финляндии.

Take a break from your everyday routine and find time to visit a marvelous place really close to the town of Mikkeli, i.e. Neitvuori, a mountain with a magnificent view to the surrounding area. The mountain 110 meters high above the lake Saimaa or 184 above the sea level is located approximately 35 km away from Mikkeli.
